Stuart Ryan – 2002 Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’

Stuart Ryan – ‘You and Me’

Here’s a video featuring the guitar playing of UK guitarist Stuart Ryan. The piece entitled “You and Me” starts out with some sweet fingerstyle and then shifts midway through with some percussive tapping.

If you are wondering how I found Stuart well, really he found me (or us). So it’s always a pleasant surprise to connect with another great guitarist who in this case, has only 1000 or so views on YouTube. Hey, look at the bio below- he’s done some great things including 2002 Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’! So go ahead and share this with your friends and help support Stuart.

Here’s Stuart Ryan’s bio:

“Regarded as one of the UK’s finest fingerstyle guitarists, Stuart Ryan began his professional career in 2002 when he was awarded Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year.’ He quickly came to the attention of Martin Taylor MBE, one of the world’s leading jazz guitarists, who gave Stuart valuable encouragement and asked him to perform at his Kirkmichael Guitar Festival sharing the bill with leading players Tommy Emmanuel and Bireli Lagrene amongst others. An acclaimed performer, Stuart has gone on to share the stage with many of the world’s greatest acoustic guitarists including Martin Taylor MBE, Eric Roche, Thomas Leeb and Jon Gomm, all of whom he is proud to count as friends. Several of Stuart’s previous students have also gone on to become prominent players themselves such as Youtube sensation Mike Dawes and ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year 2011’ Will McNicol. Stuart’s music has also ended up in some unlikely places – Lamb vocalist/songwriter Lou Rhodes was so impressed with Stuart’s study pieces that she used one of them in her track ‘Rounds’ from Lamb’s 2011 album ’5.’

Stuart has over ten years of professional performance experience as a solo concert guitarist. He has appeared twice at London’s famous Purcell Room and at many clubs and Arts Centres throughout the UK including The Sage, Gateshead. He has been a featured artist at every major UK guitar festival and has been invited to perform at the Bath International Guitar Festival every year since 2003. His European travels have taken in concert halls in Italy, Austria, Ireland and Germany with more overseas appearances planned for the future. His solo show appeals to guitar fans and music lovers alike and takes the listener on a panoramic journey through the entire spectrum of guitar music – from jazz to gritty Delta Blues and the traditional sounds of Ireland and Scotland to the vibrant sounds of African guitar.”
