Tim Thompson: Birdland

Birdland performed by Tim Thompson on a Redline Parlor Guitar

I’m just guessing that the folks over at Redline Guitars got Tim Thompson to play their parlor guitar for this video. For those of you that don’t know, Tim Thompson was the 2008 International Fingerstyle Champion… so if this is indeed an advertisement, they certainly picked a great guitarist to demo this guitar.

The YouTube description says this parlor guitar is made out of Honduran Mahogany back and sides, Carpathian Spruce top, Ebony fingerboard and equipped with Grover tuners, 24 3/4 inch scale, 1 2/4 inch nut. Bone nut and saddle. For more information contact: www.redlineacoustic.com

Now about Tim…. What I like about his playing is-  his ability to play the melody. I’ve always loved this song (Birdland) and Tim is just so lyrical with it all, including some very tasteful embellishments.

The camera work on this video is very cool too (the over the shoulder is nice just to see how he’s doing it all from a players perspective). Enjoy!
