Led Zeppelin – Going To California – Staying Acoustic
This time the band Led Zeppelin is going to stay acoustic on “Going To California” unlike the album version that has drums and electric guitars kick in midway through the song.
It’s enjoyable to hear it this way- I was psyched about finding this all acoustic version from the band that helped define the heavy metal sound-…. quite a departure?
Well not really.
Lots of Led Zeppelin’s songs have an underlying acoustic bed with acoustic guitar and mandolin- one of the reasons why I was such a fan of their music.

This is the side of Zeppelin too often overlooked.
Yes, I agree. There’s more acoustic playing in their songs than you would think.
And Jimmy’s use of alternate tunings always made it interesting.
Here’s one you are going to want to read Bob. Light & Shade, Conversations with Jimmy Page. Published this year. I’m half way through and it’s great.
