Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler: A Great Match

This from YouTube: “Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins play “I’ll see you in my dreams” and “Imagine” live at Secret Policeman’s Third Ball 1987.”  link

This is an enjoyable video in that Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins both have that easy going feel to their playing. Yea, hot licks and stuff, but they’re playing music and not trying to blow the other one away. In Mark’s case, a lot of it has to do with the respect he obviously has for Chet, plus I don’t think you’re gonna blow away Chet anyway…

We all know how popular Mark’s Dire Straits band was with the worldwide album sales of over 120 million. Even without his hooking up with Chet, he was well recognized in the guitar playing community. But do you think that this duo with Chet legitimized him further?
