Iconic Fingerpicking Intro Dust in the Wind- made Easy
If you are just starting out on fingerpicking, you might have wanted to learn to play the Iconic Intro to Dust In The Wind. But as you may have noticed, it’s not so easy!
So to help make this accessible for beginners, I created an easy version by making one small modification. This mod or “workaround” as I call it, makes it so you can avoid forming 4 fingered C and Am chords and can play this now by using just 1 finger.

Happy pickin’ !!

Hey Bob, you are such a great teacher for fingerstyle beginners, by taking an absolute classic song by Kansas
and making it so ridiculously achievable for everybody at any level to enjoy playing, making it a big win for everybody
Keep up the great work that you do, and have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!
Hey Anthony, many thanks for your kind words and comment here. This was a tough song to modify but I’m hoping this will at least get people to play their guitar with a little something that they are familiar with. Wishing you all the best with this and a Merry Christmas + great New Year!!
Hi Bob, You have nailed it here. This is a great way for beginners to jump into the amazing world of finger picking. A lot of the other internet teachers start with “Dust in the Wind,” but they don’t make it truly “beginner” friendly, no matter what they say. Your method of learning the picking pattern and playing it over a one finger chord is perfect for beginners and even folks with finger dexterity issues. Great work! Thanks
Hey Joel, it took me a week to figure out this work around for this Intro! Thank you for your great comment here and I’m hoping this is going to give beginners a “Quick Win” on their guitar! Wishing you a happy weekend and thanks again!
