A Young Richard Smith and Chet Atkins

You gotta wonder sometimes how some of these great guitarists were at a young age and just getting started. Well in Richard Smith’s case, we are fortunate enough to have a video of him.

Here’s Richard with legendary guitarist Chet Atkins (obviously Richard’s hero) when Richard was just 11 years old.

Now of course, Richard didn’t rest upon his natural talents… no no. Cause he’s certainly a lot better now as it is to be expected. But you can definitely hear that Richard was a child prodegy by watching him here with Chet.

One other thing about this video that struck me.. Chet Atkins is about as warm and sincere as a person can be… a true gentleman. Besides his wonderful guitar playing, his personality just makes you love him all the more. I’m sure his encouragement definitely helped Richard.
