15 year old is “Phunkdified” … Ben Lapps

Here’s a kid named Ben Lapps, performing a Justin King song called Phunkdified. He’s 15 … wow.   What gets me is, it’s obvious that he’s a filler in this concert as the stage crew is setting up for the main act to follow. Follow? I want to see what could be better to follow here… (they should have left the camera rolling).

  • Mek Natividade: Secret to Fast Arpeggios

Here’s a video by Mek Natividade, a guitarist who is showing off some fast arpeggios. Now to be honest, Mek is fast but… a little sloppy… The reason however that I wanted you to see this vid is- it’s a clear view of his right hand sweeping downward in one motion to create the arpeggios. This technique is what the Gypsy Jazz style guitarists use, but with a flatpick. Other people call it sweep picking – used as the ultimate speed weapon […]

Kaki King Video- Live on the Letterman Show

A friend of mine turned me on this Kaki King video that was lifted from the Letterman Show. I have to admit, I’ve seen a few other videos of Kaki but this one is the most impressive. Pink Noise is a memorable song and the technique she is using makes one wonder why someone would ever choose to use a flatpick. Well….. I’m not going to go that far but, using the right hand in this manner turns the guitar […]

  • The Best Ever Flamenco Guitarist: Sabicas

Guitar-Tube is calling this live video of Legendary master of flamneco guitarist Sabicas one of the best.  This was filmed shortly before his death in 1990. Best ever? Well, you can be the judge. I hoping to still be able to move my fingers at 78. Want to point out the slides he does from the 6th string. First time it almost sounds like a picked chromatic scale.. awesome! Quick Facts about Sabicas: Chet Atkins once praised Sabicas for having the […]

  • Esteban Antonio: Introducing the Ha-Shem

Esteban Antonio is quite an inventive guitarist. So much so, that he has created what he calls “The Ha-Shem.”  It’s described as having 17 strings, and can be called a “Grand Concert Harp Guitar.” The guitar featured in this video was built by Kif Wood. They are saying that this guitar” is a major revolution in the advancement of the guitar since 1880 combining plucked and bowing techniques, creating a completely new sound. ” This style of guitar is not […]

  • So You Want to Be an Acoustic Guitar Player?

So You Want to Be an Acoustic Guitar Player?

If you are an inspiring guitarist, I want you to pay close attention to this next video. Here’s a guy that’s playing his ass off in the street for maybe a few coins. This is what it’a like to live the life of a real musician. Now I’m especially digging the part after the song is over….. almost an embarrassing amount of silence. If you have played these types of gigs (or in the streets), you know what I’m talking about. Here’s […]

  • Solo Acoustic Guitar by Ewan Dobson “I Know Your Pain ”

Solo Acoustic Guitar by Ewan Dobson “I Know Your Pain ”

Ewan Dobson could probably play the hell out of a 5 string banjo if he wanted to. I say this because a lot of his right hand technique is similar to that of a modern day banjoist. Here’s a cool video and a song entitled “I know Your Pain,” but only for your listening pleasure- as you can’t really see what Ewan is doing all the time. Give me your rating of this guy. I think he’s awesome.

Ewan Dobson- Over 8 Million Views Fools the Public

Here’s Ewan Dobson performing a song titled – Time 2.. It has 8,768,661 views!   For those of you that don’t know, Ewan is using a delay on his guitar that was originally invented by Les Paul back in the 40′s. The way it works is, you would be recording signal through the first tape head on a tape machine, and the second head a couple of inches away would play back your part, delayed in time of course. It became […]

  • Do Kids that play guitar Get a Free Pass?

Do Kids that play guitar Get a Free Pass?

What is it about kids playing the guitar? Do they get a free pass from the audience? Even if they are sloppy and missing notes? Check out this vid of the young Julio Silpitruca playing a song entitled  ”La cumparsita” Well, he’s pretty good for his age, probably better than most adults and perhaps a guitar hero in the making but, do me a favor… Close your eyes and just listen. Now what do you think?

  • Dominic Frasca; Someone’s Gonna Get Hurt

Dominic Frasca. Here’s guitar playing that doesn’t sound human. I mean is this for real? Obviously is doing a lot of crazy things like putting pieces of wood on his guitar to using a C clamp as a capo holding  down 2 strings. This is a compilation of a bunch of vids. Truthfully, I had to watch this a few times. What a monster player.  Perhaps one of the most unique styles I’ve ever heard. Dominic currently lives in New York […]

  • Erik Mongrain- Guitar lap tap

Here’s some pertty awesome guitar tapping by French Canadian guitarist Erik Mongrain. And he’s holding it like it’s a dobro (for those of you that don’t know what a dobro is, look up a Jerry Douglas video). It would seem to me that this is a better way to tap as you have your entire right hand able to move around the neck. The Youtube video says it’s the best ever. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 post your comments…

Justin King- Guitar Tapping Taken to Another Level

Guitar Tapping maniac Justin King is not even mentioned in this video. I wonder why. So, I’ll mention him. Justin King, Justin King, Justin King. This guy knows how to tap, definitely one of the best and so influential to a lot of new guitarists.  This vid was shot back in 2006…. Here’s another vid of him tapping on a double neck guitar- filmed a year ago-  May 2012. Song is called “Knock on Wood” You like?  share this with friends..

  • Solo Guitar by Mike Dawes – Somebody That I Used To Know

Now here’s a guy that practiced with the click. Mike Dawes – Somebody That I Used To Know (Gotye) is a flawlessly performed piece that is listed in youtube saying “No Overdubs.” Do you  believe that? Do I believe that? Well, you know how youtube videos are, hard sometimes to really tell if what you are watching is indeed the real thing. From what I’m seeing and watching, it looks real, but what a great recording… hum…. The camera work and […]

  • Owen van-Larkins: Sweet As Honey

Here’s a semi  solo performance by Owen van-Larkins with a song entitled “Honey.” I say semi solo because there’s some other stuff added along with the guitar. But who cares! This  is just about as beautiful of a guitar composition that you will ever hear. Obviously when the keys starts to double the guitar, and then the cymbal swells before the bridge… well-  you know it’s a production and not the live playing. Some of you might cringe but people […]

“Drifting” by Solo Acoustic Guitarist Andy McKee: There’s a lot of guys doing taping but I haven’t heard it performed much better than Andy McKee. Aparanlty the public thinks he’s the sheeet too- this vid has 44,291,000 plays! (WUWT?)  He’s the #1 listened to guitarist on the internet (hope you are cashing in on that Andy). Andy’s like a one man band, drums, guitar bass and all. What do you think of his playing?     Check this quote out […]

  • Solo Acoustic Guitar with Stefano Barone – Altalenanze

Hey! Check out this amazing sounding recording by Italian guitarist Stefano Barone, performing a piece entitled Altalenanze. It’s difficult to tell if the video and audio was shot at the same time since it sounds to me like there’s microphones involved in the recording. And unless it was shot with one camera (a two camera shoot), that would definitely mean that it was played along to. But either way, this  is a superb performance. Now to my ears, it sounds like a […]
