  • Frank Crespo: “A LIGHT AT THE END”

Here’s a video sent in by an excellent guitarist named Frank Crespo, with a song entitled  ”A Light At The End” which is featured on his new CD “A Perfect Circle.” Frank Crespo uses a lot of chord melodies in this piece along with the new style of guitar tapping which does make for a fuller sound overall. But what’s interesting here is Frank’s inversion of his left hand, grabbing what looks like a G minor chord from the opposite side of […]

  • Stefano Barone: Orchestra of Sound

My guitar pickin’ buddy Gary Reed shared this video with me this morning… Stefano Barone – Batman – Alexander Supertramp Thanks Gary, and this of course is some cool guitar tapping and performance that uses a lot of cool digital guitar effects, Mainly a TC Electronics “g-natural” effects processor. There’s more info about it down below. This and Stefano’s tapping technique makes his one guitar sound like an orchestra of sound . Here’s a short interview of Stefano Barone that […]

  • Will Brown – Orion

Here’s guitarist Will Brown with a song called Orion. Will does a combo of fingerpicking and percussive guitar tapping… First thing I noticed… this guy is really good. Second thing I noticed …. what’s he doing with only 130 views? I’m gonna make it a point after posting this to see what impact we can have here. Think of it a a group collective …. Power in numbers…. A force for positive acoustic change! Okay, I’m gonna get arrested here […]

  • Phil Keaggy – Perfect Blend of Talent & Technology

Maybe when you watch this video you are not going to be as impressed as I was- I don’t know how anyone wouldn’t be however.. this for me is one of the best videos of the year at Acoustic Guitar Videos. And what blows my mind is I have never heard of Phil Keaggy before.. Shame on me… I had to watch this video 3 times in a row. I’m blown away. At first I thought the background guitar stuff […]

  • Evan Graham – Stratospheric

Here’s Evan Graham with a video of one of his latest compositions entitled ‘Stratospheric.” He says that he had “no outside help for the audio/video this time.” Well, I think Evan did a marvelous job on both ends of the recording- but what’s really impressive is his performance…. first rate. And the arrangement- “Stratospheric” is an excellent memorable composition. I did some digging around and found out that Evan (who originally hails from Dundee, Scotland) has been writing and arraigning for acoustic guitar […]

  • Erik Mongrain: Lap Tap Insanity

We’ve featured Erik Mongrain here before. The reason is obvious… This guy is SMOKIN! This new style of lap tap guitar that uses no picks and no single string picking to me is more reminiscent of playing a piano than a guitar. I will say that after watching this video, it’s debatable as to anyone doing it better than Erik. Here’s some info that you may enjoy: “In 2007, Mongrain went on a tour around the world, particularly in Europe, […]

Rhett Butler: Playing Two Guitars At the Same Time

Rhett Butler has figured out a way to play two guitars at the same time. Heres a video of him playing a Joe Satriani song which was recorded  by Conrad Wolfman at Crossroads Coffeehouse in Winnsboro Texas 2009. Commentary and a question by Jim Weaver: “Not acoustic but Mr. Butler explains why he uses electrics for the melodic interpretation of this song whereas he plays acoustics for more rhythmic work. I think the lower guitar is an Ibanez replica Jaguar but what is […]

  • Rob Guerin “Bliss Tree” Acoustic Guitar

Here’s a really talented guitarist by the name of Rob Guerin performing a song called Bliss Tree. It’s all in the tapping guitar style and played very well. What amazes me is the beautiful tone Rob is able to get out out of his guitar using this technique. Now I can’t tell but the guitar has got to be plugged in, right? Like I’ve said in earlier posts, I’ve tried some of this tapping stuff and can’t seem to get […]

Who is Tony Haven? Well, check out this video and an article written by Ernesto Schnack from http://nwoag.com/interview-with-tony-haven/: “Tony Haven is a lap tapping guitarist from the UK who just released his second album Sun Set to Rise, and a B-sides collection entitled B Sides and Sea Sides. I asked Tony about his new releases and his unique playing style. Could you talk a bit about your influences and how you ended up playing solo acoustic guitar? I started playing solo acoustic just after […]

  • Osiris – Jonathan Lane (fingerstyle tapping vocals)

We’ve featured Jonathan Lane before here at Acoustic Guitar Videos and for good reason… This guy is awesome! This song Osiris started out as an instrumental believe it or not. So I do have access to that (darm good). But then Jonathan brought it to my attention that he had written some words and added a vocal to this… I thought at first “oh no.” But guess what? Jonathan has a really cool voice that blends so well with what […]

  • Ivan Kapec: Odd Meters And Syncopation…

Here’s Ivan Kapec with some fine solo guitar work that I have to just say… PLEASE DON’T ASK ME TO PLAY THIS PIECE! This type of guitar playing is a form of  tapping guitar, but an offshoot version which involves different types of traditional syncopated rhythms. His playing is influenced by Eastern and Balkan music inherently possesses some  odd-meter measures… This is very interesting and relatively new field of fingerstyle which  I admit, I don’t know much about but wow…right? Please help […]

  • Thomas Leeb – A One Man Acoustic Guitar Wrecking Crew

This is a super high quality video by CandyRat Records featuring Austrian guitarist Thomas Leeb with a song entitled “Fishbowl.” Thomas Leeb who is no stranger to the music business, has been recording since he was  seventeen.  I wanted to find out more about this virtuoso guitarist and did so on Wiki… “Thomas Leeb calls his music “the bastard child of acoustic guitar”, combining unusual techniques, ideas and harmonies with a frank tongue-in-cheek attitude. His friend, Irish guitarist Eric Roche, called him “my […]

  • Jonathan Lane: Great Playing Goes A Long Way

Jonathan Lane obviously made this video in what looks like his bedroom but you know what? It doesn’t matter. This young man can really play! In this makeshift studio he’s got a Shure SM57 mic – the war horse mic used for live application…. certainly not for recording.  I don’t know what he’s using for outboard gear but most likely recording to the computer. Yet with all this (or lack there of) he’s getting a great sound. Let’s face it- great playing […]

Make sure to watch the ending of this video- it’s  a little strange (maybe that’s a good thing?)

  • Andy Mckee Live- Africa (Pop Song By Toto)

You’ve heard this song before on the radio no doubt. Big hit for the band Toto and now it’s in Andy Mckee’s set at a live gig. Andy Mckee is one of the most popular solo guitarist (if not the most popular) on the internet, as his videos have ranged into the millions of views. This video was just put up on YouTube  October 11, 2012 As of this writing… only has 25 views (well, 26 or 27 now since my […]

  • Brandon Farris~ Overwhelmed

I guess this song title “Overwhelmed” would be an appropriate title if Brandon Farris expected me to play this song… but not for him. Brandon is the new breed of tapping guitarist that seem to have more sounds coming out of the guitar than is humanly possible, and on this video, he is making it look all too easy. Now what I found interesting here is, the tone. Doesn’t seem to me to be any pickup used here at all […]

  • Tony Haven – Rapids – Lap Tapping Acoustic Guitar

For the life of me, I don’t know how these “tapping guitarist” are able to get such good tone and definition out of a guitar. I have tried to do this and just can’t seem to get the technique (maybe I need lessons from Tony Haven!). Kind of reminds me of when I was learning the banjo. The 3 finger Scruggs style was no problem but, the claw hammer seemed so bizarre and so opposite of a technique that I started with. […]

I have to admit that I watched this video about 5 times. And I’m gonna watch it again after I’m done with this article. Chris Woods…. lot more than a great groove.. lot more than a great song… And it’s a lot more than just than hot licks, chops and speed (although it’s got that and all the above…) It’s mood created by sound.. Chris Woods is one rare guitarist that is able to put forth feeling behind each note […]

  • Vicki Genfan- Slap Tap Wow

    Vicki Genfan- Slap Tap Wow

Here’s New Jersey guitarist and 2008 Guitar Player Contest Winner Vicki Genfan in a live performance at the Soave Guitar Festival, Italy.   The “slap-tap” technique brings the acoustic guitar to another level in my opinion that conventional playing such as the classical guitar technique and/or standard fingerstyle guitar does not encompass. Vicki who also plays the banjo and trombone, has performed at many folk style venues around the world. I haven’t heard her sing but she is said to […]

15 year old is “Phunkdified” … Ben Lapps

Here’s a kid named Ben Lapps, performing a Justin King song called Phunkdified. He’s 15 … wow.   What gets me is, it’s obvious that he’s a filler in this concert as the stage crew is setting up for the main act to follow. Follow? I want to see what could be better to follow here… (they should have left the camera rolling).

Kaki King Video- Live on the Letterman Show

A friend of mine turned me on this Kaki King video that was lifted from the Letterman Show. I have to admit, I’ve seen a few other videos of Kaki but this one is the most impressive. Pink Noise is a memorable song and the technique she is using makes one wonder why someone would ever choose to use a flatpick. Well….. I’m not going to go that far but, using the right hand in this manner turns the guitar […]

Here’s some pertty awesome guitar tapping by French Canadian guitarist Erik Mongrain. And he’s holding it like it’s a dobro (for those of you that don’t know what a dobro is, look up a Jerry Douglas video). It would seem to me that this is a better way to tap as you have your entire right hand able to move around the neck. The Youtube video says it’s the best ever. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 post your comments…

This guy knows how to tap, definitely one of the best and so influential to a lot of new guitarists.  This vid was shot back in 2006…. Here’s another vid of him tapping on a double neck guitar- filmed a year ago-  May 2012. Song is called “Knock on Wood” You like?  share this with friends..
