    Jerry Reed – Lightning Rod

You just got to love Jerry Reed’s guitar playing. Here’s a song entitled “Lightning Rod” that was filmed in Nashville back in 1977 on the Ralph Emery Show. The playing here just goes to show you how ahead Jerry was for his time on the guitar, playing runs and licks that really didn’t show up in country music till a bunch of years later. Jerry Reed- definitely a guitar Pioneer.

Adrian Legg: Voted Best Acoustic Fingerstyle

Readers of Guitar Player voted Adrian Legg the “best acoustic fingerstyle player” four years in a row (1993–1996). Do you wonder why? Check this video, where he plays “Cajun Interlude”, using tuners on all strings, bendings, harmonics… The result is a sound completely different. The video is an excerpt from the DVD “Fingerstyle Guitar: New Dimensions & Explorations, Vol. One“. • Trigger: “Old and beat-up”

    Trigger: “Old and beat-up”

By Miche Archetto: This post is first about a guitar, and then about his legendary player. Yes, I’m talking about Willie Nelson’s “Trigger”. The video is about one of the few instrumentals played by Willie: “Nuages”, by Django Reinhardt. Willie Neslon shared recently on his facebook page a beautiful article about his fascinating guitar, and commented “Trigger is like me. Old and beat up.” Following are some excerpts from that article: “The guitar—a Martin N-20 classical, serial number 242830—was a […]

  • Everyone Has A Hero- Even Tommy Emmanuel

There’s really nothing like Tommy Emmanuel, in just about every category of guitar playing, this guy is pretty much the King of it all. How does someone get this good? Well, my friend Tommy Doyle (phenomenal guitarist that was with Les Paul for many years) told me that Emmanuel just walks around with his guitar all day long… it’s like a part of him. Now this video is cool because Tommy tells the story about getting to play with one […]

  • Mark O’Connor and Chet Atkins – “Nashville Now”

Here’s Mark O’Connor along with Chet Atkins back in 1983 on Ralph Emery’s “Nashville Now” TV show. If you think back to how long ago that was, Mark couldn’t have been more than 20.. and how bout  Chet  (looks so young). Back then, the acoustic guitar plug in choice was an Ovation, as most of the acoustic guitars out there didn’t come with a built in pickup.  Ovations were not only good for amplification but, the action on those guitars […]

  • Doyle Dykes Rips Into Fingerpickin’ Country

Doyle Dykes reminds me of an American version of Tommy Emmanuel. Obviously has that Chet Atkins country sound and flavor to his playing but also has more chops than Chet. Okay, let’s call Doyle “Chet on Steroids.” Doyle is a one man wrecking crew and takes no prisoners when he plays- What I mean by that statement is, he has that firm and aggressive touch- even on slower style songs (which I will feature here soon and you’ll hear). And just when he […]

  • Willie Nelson-Inspirational Solo-Blue Eye’s Crying In The Rain

You’ve heard this song before, but not like this… Here’s Willie Nelson with “Blue Eye’s Crying In The Rain” only check out Willie’s really nice acoustic guitar solo. Willie is one of the old school country guys that knows music and chord changes- this solo is proof (to me better than the recorded version). Did you know that there used to be a time that country music had chord changes and not just 1, 4 , 5 with an occasional […]
