Clarence White: TV Guitar Workshop “Soldiers Joy”

Here’s a video that was filmed back in 1970 featuring Clarence White on the old standard “Soldiers Joy.”

This is a TV guitar workshop with an all star cast which includes his brother Roland White on mandolin, Byron Berline on fiddle, Alan Munde on banjo and Bob Baxter on rhythm guitar.

Clarence’s guitar playing is explosive and, the tone he gets is what all flatpicking guitarists are looking for.

For those of you that don’t know, In 1973, Clarence White was killed by a drunk drunk driver while packing up his car after a gig. Who knows what guitar innovations would have followed?

(BTW, the B Bender for the Telecaster was invented by Gene Parsons and Clarence White.)
