Dylan Ryche: Second Place Canadian Fingerstyle Championship

“Competition Performance – Finalist 2, Song 2 – 2nd Place
The Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Championship – (see also CGF 2012 – “Winner”)
August 1, 2010 Loughborough Lake, Kingston, Ontario”

It takes a certain type of person to be able to compete in a competition.

The amount of nerves that can shake the best players…. a competition can be overwhelming to many guitarists.

Well, Dylan Ryche seems to have nerves of steel in this original fingerstyle rendition of “Platypus In Sheep’s Clothing”  a bluesy style tune that features a strong memorable melody combined with some nice changes.

I don’t know who won first place that year but, Dylan’s performance here is first rate by anyone’s standards.

Here’s a write-up from YouTube that came along with the video:

Dylan Ryche from Toronto placed second in the 2010 competition. This tune is an original piece called “Platypus In Sheep’s Clothing”, which is on his recent album of original material called “Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar”. It is available at cdbaby, Amazon and iTunes.

About the judging: The judges are mainly drawn from the main-stage performers, and the judging is done blind: judges cannot see the stage, and the contestants are identified by number only. Five finalists are chosen from a maximum of 24 entrants, who perform two tunes each. Each finalist plays a further two tunes. The judges this year were Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, Tony McManus, and Radio-Canada’s Dan Berhman.”
