John James- Blues For Felix

Blues For Felix – John James – Acoustic fingerpicking jazzy-blues instrumental

By Jim Weaver:

Since AGV posted John James “Twelfth Street Rag”  I thought I would post his interpretation of Charlie Byrd’s “Blues for Felix”.

Until I read the YouTube post on this, I did not know that JJ is Welsh and reportedly lives not far from the famous village Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychllwyndrwmbwllllantisiloigogogoch. (Like me you should copy and paste that unless you are Welsh and know it is wrong).

His fans also report that he sometimes performs on a local Welsh radio station.  The call letters are not generally known but if in the UK, just turn your dial until you hear sheep…

He recorded this jazzy-blues instrumental on his LP (remember those?) “Head In The Clouds” Transatlantic TRA305 1975, considered one of his best works. According to the liner notes it was recorded in the studio whose toilet famously was used to record Gerry Rafferty’s sax solo on “Baker Street.”  Check with Amazon to see if it has been reissued on cd.  Tablature is also available at his website.  Check out http://www.johnjamesguitarist.com
