Glen Campbell & Carl Jackson: Dueling Banjos

Here’s Glen Campbell and banjoist Carl Jackson, in what is described as the “Earliest known video of Glen and Carl performing Dueling Banjos- April 1973”

Of course the song itself was the hit from the movie Deliverance which helped the banjo and bluegrass music gain popularity in the mainstream.

Although it was a help, lots of bluegrass people and pickers looked down on the song, as it wasn’t exactly  real Bluegrass Music. Nonetheless, it’s movies like Deliverance, Bonnie and Clyde and Brother Where Art Thou that brought over a lot of new fans.

The actual recording of Dueling Banjos was no where near as fancy, and there should be no doubt that Glen and Carl wanted to “kick it up a few notches” with their version.
